- Purpose & Guidelines
In 1992 several member organizations expressed an interest in forming dance
competitions as an outlet for the more serious country/western dancers. A
committee of six was originally formed to start the ball rolling. Over the
course of 2 years, rules were put together and a basic format was created to
enable anyone interested in competing a chance to show off their best stuff
in a non-threatening environment with their peers in different categories and
at different levels of competence. Finally in South Florida in 1998 the
first competition was held with 8 couples, 5 line dancers, and 4 teams
competing....a very sucessful start. The competitions have grown since.
Today we are seeing new partnerships forming (same-sex couples as well as
opposite-sex couples) and more involvement in gay/lesbian country/western
competitions. (by Lee Fox, Director of Dance)

The three standing members, chaired by the IAGLCWDC Director of Dance, conduct the
day-to-day business of the committee. Each IAGLCWDC member club may designate
